Diet Apathy

I've fallen into the old familiar way of eating that I despise. Being off work for two weeks has meant sleeping in, staying up late, and having no menu structure. You would think that my being off work would have inspired me to cook and work out. Pffftht. Not hardly. I have not been eating breakfast. Lunch is a joke. And dinner? Well, dinner hasn't been awful, just not the way I need to be eating if I really intend to lose more weight.

Why have I lost interest in dieting? I honestly don't know. Maybe it's just juvenile rebellion. I wanted to take a trip and couldn't afford it, so let me pretend to be on vacation by not dieting. That's what we do when we are on vacation, right? Eat like we're not on a diet?!

Anyway, tomorrow I go back to work and I'll be ready to set limits for myself and have a schedule. When you have a lot of weight to lose, like I do, it requires a long term commitment. And just like anything that requires a long term commitment, boredom can set in. I think that's what's happened to me. I will be working on mixing things up so the boredom lifts and my "loser" attitude gets adjusted. I've come to far to "break-up" now, lol.

Saturday I went on a training ride that is offered by the group that organizes the Tour de Pink. Bike Barn was there to go over some items bike riders might consider using when out on the longer rides; helmets, camelbaks, mirrors, etc. They also offer a bike maintenance class the first Wednesday of every month. Yay! They are really nice and very helpful.

There were some great mentors riding around helping us novices learn about bike fit, safety while riding in a group, and just learning to be observant on the road. Very nice group of peeps. I am excited about next weekend when we go on a short group ride.

Thank you for thinking of me while I've been absent from bloggerville. I have some catching up to do and I've missed some important stuff, I'm sure. I'm especially sad to learn about Jen's loss. I can only hope that her family finds peace in the coming days.

Have a good week and don't forget to drink your water.

  1. Hi Tena,
Breaking up at this point would be a terrible mistake, you'll just get back together later and then there will new issues. (What were you doing during the break up? etc.) LOL.
    Great post again!
I have been researching weight loss blogs and read about Jen last night. I have never read her blog before and it felt horrible coming in at such a time. I feel so sad for her.

  2. Glad you are getting back on board - perhaps you needed a little break - fair enough, everyone else gets one!

The bike thing sounds great, I would love to go to something like that.

Enjoy being back at work and getting back into the routine again (groan).

  3. so many thoughts.
sometimes having a break from giving what we put in our mouths is precisely what we need.
just time to almost turn our brains OFF FOR A BIT.

glad youre back. and remember to just make small steps to big changes---not too much all at one where you (ok I :))grow frustrated.

  4. Enjoy being back at work and your schedule returning. I think sometimes we need to change, switch things around sometimes because it can get boring. And overwhelming.

Enjoy your biking! That sounds like a lot of fun!

  5. all or nothing mindsets get us in to trouble.
we need to look at the big picture and remember we've got time to do this.

I really love that you're doing the biking thing.

    Don't beat yourself up, Tena.
you've told me that so many times, remember?
Now I'm telling you ... be kind with yourself. You wouldn't be this hard on a friend.

  7. I'm jazzed about how you've taken your biking to the next level -- community involvement. You are bound to meet some great people.

Probably the most important thing I've learned so far on my weight loss/fitness journey is that success doesn't depend on perfection. But a lot of it depends on not stopping (at least not for long). Keep going in the right direction and you'll get there.

You are becoming an athlete and athletes give their bodies good fuel. Don't think about what you "can't" eat or "shouldn't" eat. Think about what you want to eat to feel great while riding your bike.

  8. I'm so glad you're back....missed you!!!

We all take vacations...everyone of us...none are pefect to the letter...it's not about that. It's like Karen said...it's about the "big picture"...you know what you want and you will get there. We're all here to cheer you on along the way. Time to break out the turkey burger and egg whites!! :)

  11. Good for you for mixing things up to keep them interesting - you've definitely come too far to break up now.

I also go through cycles with my motivation . . . as long as we can maintain/not gain during our "off" periods, we'll get to our goals eventually!

  12. Looks like we went on "vacation" together. I'm gald you are ok, and not "breaking up"!! :-)

Wow, Lee hit some key points. And if we could all get our heads around that mindset, it would make this a lot easier.

  13. It is so hard to stay on program when your routine is off, whether you are away on vacation or just not working. I'm sure you will get right back into what has worked for you so far.

    You can do it!
