Drying out.

The sun is out today. The temp is a balmy 80 degrees with a feels-like temp of 83. Thanks to the heavy rains yesterday we are dripping with humidity. This is the beginning of Summer for us here in my neck of the woods. From now until November it will be hot and humid and sticky. Last night while I was out back with the dogs, mosquitoes were swarming around my legs. Those things make life outdoors miserable. I don't like spraying myself with Off! or Deep Woods, but I usually have to. Any one have a good organic alternative that works to keep the little blood-suckers away?

I watched Biggest Loser last night and I have to say that I love all the contestants and don't care who wins the big prize. I'm just so proud for all of them that they have lost so much weight! I get so motivated while I'm watching the show. Lately I just can't get my meals planned. I don't really know why I can't get it together. I want to get serious about my weight loss again but I just keep eating without thinking. I've slowly started to eat more sweets and that is a real disaster for me. Once sugar gets to be a daily occurrence for me I have a very hard time cutting it back out. Just the thought of not having something sweet right now makes me depressed. Food has gotten a hold of me again.

Friday is May 1st and I want to get back on track. I don't want to spend another summer is this heavy body of mine. So I'm planning menus and going shopping this week to get stocked up with the foods I need to attack and succeed.

Planning is everything. Motivation is key. Exercise is never wasted. Water is life!

  2. Hi Tena,
I know how hard it is to stay motivated! Easter almost put me into a bigger size.
'The Photographer' is 6'6" and is a sugar connaisseur (so it is always around me) but of course it doesn't affect his waist at all!
I hope you get back on track!
I'm in the midst of planning a 25lb loss, so I'll be dropping in for inspiration.

  3. "Yesterday is the past, tomorrow is the future, today is a gift, that's why it's called the Present." So, now time like the present to gift yourself a new start. I'm having motivational problems, too, but I'm trying. Keep at it, we can do this.

  4. It is harder when the weather changes and it's challenging to be outside.

I'm pulling for you, Tena. You can & will do it.

    Here's today's quote from Jody's blog:

If you are going to doubt something, doubt your limits.

  5. Tena, I've always used Skin So Soft from Avon to keep the mosquitoes off of me. I have read on snopes that it does not work for more than an hour but it's always worked for me. I don't mind reapplying it though. lol Plus, it smells good and it does make your "skin so soft". :-)

  7. I was in Texas a few years back for a conference. I think I was in Austin...where I stayed was near a baseball stadium and an amusement park. Anyway, they had one of those incredible rain storms that you described in your previous post. Holy crap. I have never seen so much water come down at one time in my life. Everyone in town took it in stride, but I was shocked. The streets were totally flooded and I couldn't leave the hotel to get to the conference.

It's amazing what you get used to, I guess.

Ah, the mosquitoes. I hate the little buggers. But I don't have any advice for you on keeping them at bay. I was in Alaska once, and the were thick and huge. The only thing that kept them away was DEET, but that stuff is horrible and definitely not good for you.

Good luck with getting back on track. It sounds like you are planning well.

  8. Tena - just make the next good decision for you. Don't think about "ever" and "never" and "always". Just think about the right here and right now - it's too overwhelming to think about "I"ll never have.....again". It's just right now. Today.

You'll do great! Just step away from the sugar! :-)

As for the skeeters, I've planted citronella plants in the yard. We'll see. Bug season hasn't hit here yet.

  9. Lovin' the last line too!

As I peruse the blogs, it seems a lot of us are getting back on track! I have a feeling May is going to bring some great results. I heard someone say when you crave sugar, don't do without, just upgrade. So maybe you could have some fruit with a little dark chocolate or whatever high-quality sweets will satisfy you, and be nourishing.

    Let's do this thing!! :-)
